(07.10.26) – World Financial Planning Day offers advisers a valuable chance to bust myths around financial advice, according to national advice firm Continuum.
Today’s World Financial Planning Day emphasizes the overlooked benefits of engaging with a financial adviser, offering advisers to benefit from the publicity for the message from the Financial Planning Standards Board and the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.
During Financial Planning Day many UK financial advisers, including those from Continuum, will run a series of initiatives to promote the benefits of financial planning to local and national communities.
These include free meetings for those who want to know if they could benefit from taking advice, sharing resources on topics such as budgeting and saving for retirement on social media, and simply helping the public understand what a financial plan can do for them.
Continuum said that free introductory meetings for those interested in exploring financial planning services allow advisers to bust the myths around financial advice.
Jim Reeve, Interim Managing Partner at Continuum, said this year’s World Financial Planning Day theme should be used by financial advisers to demonstrate their expertise beyond retirement planning and investment management.
He said: “Both the CISI and FPSB put a lot of effort into public engagement initiatives reaching out to those who have not yet taken financial advice in the UK on World Financial Planning Day, it seems a shame for financial advisers not to take advantage of this work already being done for them.
“There is this misconception amongst UK consumers that financial advice is only for the really wealthy and focuses just on retirement planning and managing investments. Engaging with the social media and media activity already being done by the CISI and FPSB gives advisers the opportunity to dispel these myths.
“By talking about the broad range of people who can benefit from financial advice, the wider financial planning offering, and offering free taster sessions for potential new clients, advisers can piggy-back on the work of the professional bodies to not only help dispel myths but to find potential new clients.
“In the UK there is a chronic lack of financial education and a real fear of talking about money. Most people understand that their financial life can be improved but many focus on the today and ignore the future. As financial advisers we need to show how a good planner can help their clients evaluate what they want their future to be, and guide them towards it.”
