(20.10.26) – Former professional snooker player Paul Wykes has joined national financial advice partnership Continuum, bringing 18 years of specialist pension advice knowledge.

Paul joins from SFIA Wealth Management, part of Amber River, where he spent 11 years. Other former roles in his 18-year advice career include adviser roles at Wesleyan Financial Services and 3 years at Independence Assured.

His clients are based across Dorset and the surrounding areas.

Paul chose to join the Continuum partnership due to the strength and simplicity of the support offered to advisers.

He said: “Continuum is a company that an adviser can feel confident wants you to thrive and grow your own business. You never feel like you are going out there alone. Those worries that you always have at the back of your mind as an adviser, you know the back office team, paraplanners and compliance team have them taken care of.”

Paul had previously considered joining the Continuum partnership in 2017, but did not feel ready at the time to start his own business.

He said: “I have been watching the growth and success of Continuum for a number of years and strongly believe that now is the right time for me to make this move.”

Before entering financial advice, Paul spent 16 years as a snooker main tour professional. He continues to draw on many of the skills developed during his sporting career .

He said: “Even though it is a sport, as a snooker player you are still a business owner and building your own personal brand.”

Over the past 18 years, Paul has built up a particular specialism in pensions advice.

He said: “What I enjoy most is working with clients who are starting to think about their retirement planning or are approaching retirement. It is so rewarding helping clients identify and meet their dreams for retirement.

“Nowadays most of us pick up so many pensions along our career, due to auto enrolment. I have found clients really appreciate help with trying to find their way through the maze of multiple pots and changing legislation. Estate planning and IHT mitigation is also becoming a growing area of advice for me as unused pensions look set to come into scope for IHT next year.”

Jim Reeve, Interim Managing Partner at Continuum, said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul to Continuum. He shares our belief that great financial planning is built on trust, long-term relationships and genuinely understanding each client’s individual needs.

“His specialist pensions knowledge, experience as a professional sportsman, and client-first approach make him a fantastic addition to our growing adviser community and we are excited to support him as he continues to build his business.”
